We are not a government agency

DriversAbstract is a private third-party service provider offering services for a fee.

Do it yourself: $12.00 at www.ontario.ca

DriversAbstract is a private company. It is not a government agency, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by ServiceOntario (Ministry of Transportation), and no government has authorised, approved or appointed it. It is a company you can hire to do something you are entitled to do yourself.

You can always order this yourself

The record we sell is sold by ServiceOntario (Ministry of Transportation) to the public, at its own fee, on its own website. Here is exactly where and what it charges:

Ontario Do it yourself: $12.00 at www.ontario.ca

Our name describes the document, not the office that issues it

“Driver’s abstract” is the ordinary name for a driving record in Ontario, and it is the ministry’s own word for it. We use it because it is what the document is called and what people search for.

DriversAbstract is not ServiceOntario (Ministry of Transportation), is not part of the Ministry of Transportation or any other ministry, and is not the Ontario government or the Government of Canada. No government body has authorised, appointed, approved, accredited or endorsed us, and we hold no contract with any of them. We are not an “authorized requestor” in the sense the ministry uses that term, which is a specific status held under a signed contract with the Ministry of Transportation. We do not hold one, and that is precisely why we sell only the record the ministry states anyone may order.

The record itself is issued by the Ministry of Transportation and emailed by it to you. It is not issued by us, it does not come from us, and nothing we do changes what is on it.

What you are paying us for

A checked submission and a single charge. We validate what you enter before it is filed, we pay the ministry’s fee out of our own account as a cost of doing the job, and you deal with one company instead of two.

We are not faster than the ministry. It issues this record immediately either way, and there is nothing about our involvement that could make it quicker. Any site telling you otherwise about this particular record is describing something that does not exist.

If you think you have been misled

Tell us first — support@driversabstract.ca — and if we got it wrong we will refund you rather than argue. You can also report a business to the Competition Bureau of Canada, which is the body that polices exactly this: private companies giving the impression they are the government. We would rather be the kind of company that tells you that than the kind that hopes you do not find out.
